3 Day Diet Review
Diet plans such as the 3 Day Diet are classed as fad diets and quickly move out fashion. The 3 Day Diet popular during the mid 1980’s – the originator of the diet is unknown.
The methodology behind the 3 Day Diet is not to hard to explain – it is to lose weight quickly over a period of about 3 days. While some weight loss can be achieved, the majority of the weight lost is due to water (or fluid loss of your body which can be extremely dangerous.
The 3 Day Diet is to be followed strictly for 3 days and then the dieter must eat as they usually would (pre 3 Day Diet) for about a week before once again following the diet.
What Is The 3 Day Diet
The science behind the diet is that the types of food that are eaten cause a special metabolic reaction that promotes rapid weight loss. Followers of the 3 Day Diet are promised up to 10lbs of weight loss in three days, although realistically, most of that weight is likely due to fluid loss and not the more desirable fat loss.
The diet plan would involve coffee, toast, vegetables, fruits and some other foods such as cheese in very restricted servings over the course of a day. This diet plan must be followed specifically to lose the reported 10 pounds in 3 days – according to its creator or creators.
The 3 Day Diet had many variations – here is a typical example.
DAY 1
- BREAKFAST
- Black Coffee or Tea (if required, with 1-2 packets of Sweet and Low or equivalent)
- 1/2 a Grapefruit or Juice
- 1 Slice of Toast with 1 tbsp. Peanut Butter
- LUNCH
- 1/2 a Cup of Tuna
- 1 Slice of Toast
- Black Coffee or Tea (if required, with 1-2 packets of Sweet and Low or equivalent)
- DINNER
- 3 Oz. any lean red meat or chicken
- 1 cup each of
- green beans
- carrots
- regular vanilla ice cream
- 1 apple
DAY 2
- BREAKFAST
- Black Coffee or Tea (if required, with 1-2 packets of Sweet and Low or equivalent)
- 1 Egg (boiled, scrambled)
- 1/2 a Banana
- 1 Slice of Toast
- LUNCH
- 1 cup of cottage cheese or tuna
- 8 regular saltine crackers
- DINNER
- 2 beef franks
- 1 cup of broccoli or cabbage
- 1/2 a cup carrots
- 1/2 a banana
- 1/2 a cup of regular vanilla ice cream
DAY 3
- BREAKFAST
- Black Coffee or Tea (if required, with 1-2 packets of Sweet and Low or equivalent)
- 5 regular saltine crackers
- 1 oz. cheddar cheese
- 1 apple
- LUNCH
- 1 boiled egg
- 1 slice of toast
- Black Coffee or Tea (if required, with 1-2 packets of Sweet and Low or equivalent)
- DINNER
- 1 cup each of:
- tuna
- carrots
- cauliflower
- melon
- 1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream
Does The 3 Day Diet Work
Fad diets such as this one are the worst for most dieters to follow. There is not any real weight loss happening – just dangerously depleting yourself of fluids.
In addition, there is no scientific evidence that the foods eaten on this diet cause some specific metabolic reaction conducive to losing weight.
Another negative is that this diet is not a lifestyle change and does not promote exercise- meaning whatever weight you lose with this diet will usually be put back on in a short period of time. As always, consult with a physician before starting any diet or exercise program.
